ObjectiveTo explore the curative effect of NovaSure on Chinese patients with menorrhagia. At the same time, the study through history controlled research to explore the advantages of NovaSure system among the similar technology.Methods1.151 cases of patients with menorrhagia were treated with NovaSure system in February 2012 to December 2014 in the gynaecology department of People’s Hospital of guangxi zhuang autonomous region.Clinical follow-up data of them, such as uterine cavity depth, illness, surgery and postoperative situation were analyzed.2.60 cases were treated with NovaSure system as test group and 60 cases were treated with thermal balloon endometrial ablation as control group. The data of these patients including clinical characteristics, operative time, postoperative vaginal discharge and period of 24 months after surgery were analyzed.Results1. The average age of 151 patients was (43.62±6.16),20.53% of patients combined serious medical diseases,84.77% of the patients had anemia, uterine cavity depth on average was (8.83±1.8) cm.The mean operation time was (89.78±21.14) s. The blood loss was less than 10 ml during the operation. The postoperation hospital stay was (48±6.5) h. The rate of postoperative pain was 20.53% and the rate of vaginal discharge was 81.46%.20 months follow-up on average, the rate of efficiency was 94.04%, the rate of amenorrhea was 53.42% and the rate of hysterectomy was 2.65%.2. There was no significant difference between the groups in diseases, anemia, age and depth of the uterine cavity (P<0.05). The difference was statistically significant between test group and control group in operation time ((92.30±19.75) s vs (128±0.00) s), postoperative vaginal discharge time ((17.17±10.14) d vs (9.87±3.73) d) and the postoperative VAS score ((4.10±1.68) 分 vs (6.12±2.56)分) (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups in rate of efficiency(97.62% vs 92.00%) and amenorrhea(69.05% vs 52%) at months 24 (P>0.05).Conclusion1. NovaSure Impedance Controlled EndoMetrial Ablation System is a safe and effective method for treatment of women with menorrhagia,long-term efficacy of it still needs further study.2. The curative effect of NovaSure may be affected by the cause of menorrhagia, The uterus structural abnormalities, especially for adenomyosis and larger uterine benign placeholder lesions choose NovaSure operation need to be careful.3. The shor-term curative effect is similar to NovaSure and Thermal balloon endometrial ablation in the treatment of menorrhagia. But the rate of efficiency and amenorrhea after NovaSure surgery seems to be more stable.4. Compared with Thermal balloon endometrial ablation, Not only is NovaSure system more easy to operate without endometrium pretreatment, but also has the shorter operation time, lighter pain, wider in application, etc, worthy of clinical popularization.5. The postoperative vaginal discharge time of NovaSure surgery is longer than Thermal balloon endometrial ablation. It may be related to the endometri-um without pretreatment before surgery, but further studies are required to validate.
