Objective: This study aimed to establish a management information system database of the patients with hypokalemia, a comprehensive collection of hypokalemia related medical records, to create a powerful platform for the clinical medical treatment and scientific research.Methods: To design and establish the management information system for patients with hypokalemia using Microsoft Access 2010. First of all, according to the demand research, set the functions section and the input information items of the database preliminarily.Then creating the tables which used for data storage according to the items, set properties for each field accurately, make it reach structured and standardized to entry as much as possible, reduce the manual input way of inputting, set the primary key of each table. Set up "one to many" relationship for “the general information table” with other data tables through connect the "id" field. Creating forms for information entry, creating the combination query based on the data tables.Results: Patients Information Management System Database for Hypokalemia was established successfully. When using the databaseyou will first enter the "login", input the correct information of user into it,then you will find the database of "home”."home" includes five function that input, follow-up, query, help and user management module. The "entry" section contains some function buttons,such as the general information of patients, clinical symptoms, the medication history, concomitant disease, laboratory tests etc. when click the button,you can enter into the corresponding entry form or sub menu. The database can be used for combination fields query.The fields inclues general data of patients, the clinical manifestation, medication history, concomitant disease, laboratory examination. data can not only directly docking software SPSS, but also can be exported of the results of a query as Excel files, which can be derived to analyze the data of complicated statistical through the use of SPSS, SAS and other statistical software. the help section provide the Instructions of the database, the user management section can add, delete, edit and modify the user information.On the whole, the relevant medical data of patients with hypokalemia which are newly diagnosed or follow-up can be comprehensive and accurate collected by the database. The database has powerful query function,data can be derived for statistics and data management.it has steady operation, data errors and lost have not to appear.It also brings the great convenience for the clinical work and scientific research.Conclusion: 1, The management information system of the patients with hypokalemia can comprehensively and accurately collect at the relevant medical records about diagnosis and follow-up of patients with hypokalemia, it offers convenient and accurate entry to the complicated medical records information of hypokalemia patients.2, The management information system database of the patients with hypokalemia interface is friendly, simple, easy to operate, even if not too familiar with the computer people can easily get started.3, Field design of structured and standardized ensures the accuracy of data entry and avoids incoherent data, it is easy to retrieval and use.4, The results of the query can be exported as Excel files, through the use of SPSS, SAS and other statistical software, these can be derived to analyze the data of complicated statistical.5, The database can realize the combination of daily work and research accumulation, achieve "snowball" effect, and accumulate a huge mass of data for the subsequent research.6, The database will connect up to HIS, reduce the quantities of the input data, improve the utilization ratio of data, and can be widely used in outpatient and ward, the future will further access to the Internet. The database and the network platform for the diagnosis of hypokalemia are designed to complement each other.
