Objectives This paper has analyzed bibliotherepy papers at home and abroad, includedthe growth rule, periodicals distribution, author group distribution, regional academicoutput and the theme in the databases to reveal the history and current situation aboutreading therapy research. It can provide detailed, quantitative reference information forliterature collection, research and practice. Methods Retrieving the related databases through differeent search access,1646piecesof domestic and foreign reading therapy papers were obtained from1989to2012. All ofthe data was put into Excel, basing on the three classical bibliometric laws, this articleanalyzed age, source journals, authors, institutions, headings, keywords and other fieldindicators by bibliometric methods. Some measurement indicators of data were analyzedand given regression analysis and cluster analysis through statistical software SPSS19.0.Results(1)Through regression analysis of domestic and foreign papers, papersgrowth equations which were Y=1.021e0.304x, Y=28.506x-96.743were concludedaccordingly. The papers quantity had very significant correlation with years havinggoodness of fit up to98.5%,92.8%at home and abroad respectively.(2)Bradforddistrict of papers showed that the papers were highly concentrated in zone one, whilediscrete distribution in zone three.Journals ratio of the three zones didn’t constitutegeometric relationship.(3)Regional academic outputs:63.33%of the total paperswere published in Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong and other regions.89.92%of the totalpapers were published in the United States, Britain, Australia and other10countries.Chinese TaiShan Medical College and University of Nevada in USA were on the firstplace in evidence amount at home and abroad respectively.(4) Authors groupdistribution: The Lotka distribution equation of domestic authors wasfx=0.86253.242,xforeign authors’ distribution did not pass K-S test. The average rates of co-author at homeand abroad were32.31%and57.68%respectively. The average degrees of co-operationwere1.55and2.47respectively. There were13and14people who were core authors athome and abroad respectively; Authors distribution was in line with the long taildistribution.(5)Theme analysis: The37and30high-frequency words in the topaccount for3.18%and1.72%, but the sum of their frequency accounts for54.62%, 37.26%respectively. These high-frequency words represent research focuses of the field.Through high-frequency words cluster analysis, the tree diagrams of the high-frequencywords were made which visually indicated main research focuses in the field at home andabroad.Conclusions(1)The domestic literature growth was in the rapid development period; While the foreign one in the gradual maturing period.(2)The journals distributionwas inconsistent with Bradford’s law, but they were still in line with Bradford’s journalfocused and discrete nature law. The core journals have been formed in this research arearespectively.(3)The litrerature distribution emerged regional imbalance; Research onthe regional distribution had both generality and difference.(4)Unique phenomenonwas common in this study. In this study, Domestic and foreign core authors group bothhave been formed which not only had common research directions, but also differentones. Long tail distribution showed that more and more general authors paryicipated inthe researchers.(5)There were different emphasis on the reading therapy researchcontent at home and abroad.
