Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a commonchronic disease of respiratory system. It has been a worldwide healthconcern with high morbidity and mortality and an increasing burden onhealth care systems. The guidelines established by Europe, America andChina help the global to know and pay attention to this chronic disease,popularize the theory and practice knowledge of COPD, and improve thelevels of prevention and treatment of COPD. In recent years, thefoundation and clinical researches have significant developments. Thereare some new discoveries, knowledge and views from definition,pathogenesis to clinical diagnosis and treatment. First, according to thediagnosis and treatment guidelines established by Global initiative forChronic Obstructive Lung Disease, American Thoracic Society, EuropeanRespiratory Society and the Chinese medical association respiratoryCOPD group, this review summarized the new views and knowledgeabout the pathogenesis, definition, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of COPD. Second, the early diagnosis of COPD remains a challenge all overthe world. There have been many researches in recent years finding thatvia quantitative assessment by CT, MRI and SPECT ventilation/perfusionscans, it can offer help to early assess COPD, reach the goal to earlydetection and early intervention and thereby reduce the morbidity andmortality. Third, this essay also gave the preliminary analysis forcombining ninety inpatient of COPD in some top three hospital from2011to2013.
