Objective:To investigate clinical safety of the new fasting regimen for patients undergoing time-elective operation; evaluate its impact on preoperative thirsty, hunger, blood glucose, gastric contents and complications at induction of anaesthesia; and improve family’s satisfaction with clinical nursing care. Methods:Case control quasi experimental research design.200child patients scheduled for time-elective surgery in Children’s hospital Fudan University from January2012to April2012were selected through subjective sampling.100patients in controlled group received current mode of preoperative fasting regimen(not allow solid food and fluid at the same time about6h to8h before operation), while100patients in intervention group received new preoperative fasting regimen(not allow solid food about6h to8h before operation, while5%glucose water was given3h before operation).General information questionnaire was used to collect basic information on children demographic and disease data. Time of fasting food and liquid, vomit and aspiration status, volume and acid of gastric contents, blood glucose, degree of hungry and thirsty, and the satisfaction of clinical service care from patients’family were compared.SPSS16.0was used to analysis the data. Mean, Std deviation, percentage, independent-sample T test, Chi-square test, Person relative analysis, Kaplan-Meier and Lon-rank test were used in different data. Results:There were no significance differences in the demographic data between two groups. There were no different in the time of fasting food, status of vomiting and aspiration, volume and acid of gastric contents and blood glucose between the intervention group and the control group(p>0.05). The time of fasting liquid in experimental group was shorter than control group(p<0.05), and the degree of hungry and thirsty in experimental group was less than control group (p<0.01). Conclusion:The new preoperative fasting regimen is safety, and it could alleviate preoperative thirsty and hungry of patients, could promote satisfaction of clinical service care from patients’family.
