[Objectives] To evaluate the effect of ultrasonic scaling on the cardiac pacing system.[Methods] In this in vitro study, the pulse generator was connected with the atrial and ventricular electrode wires by a bipolar mode to form a loop. When the ultrasonic scaling was operated about25-30cm away from the loop, the intracardiac electrocardiography and parameters of the pacemaker were recorded and compared before and after the ultrasonic scaling, and also at different power during the process. In clinical trials,11patients with implanted pacemaker were selected to accept ultrasonic scaling. Surface electrocardiogram, intracavitary electrocardiogram and pacemaker parameters were compared before, during and after the ultrasonic scaling.[Results]1、The results of in vitro study did not show any significant difference for the intracardiac electrocardiogram before and after ultrasonic scaling, and at different power.2、The results of in vitro study did not show any significant difference for the parameters of pacemaker before and after ultrasonic scaling, and at different power.3、In clinical trials,11patients with implanted pacemaker did not present any discomfort reactions, such as dizziness, palpitations and nausea.4、There was no interference for the surface and intracavitary electrocardiogram records at different time, as well as the sixth patient who with the implantable cardioverter defibrillator(ICD),and the second patient had a atrial premature.5、The pacemaker was programmable controlled unipolar, and the Surface and intracardiac electrocardiogram have some varieties when the patient was rinsing. 6、There was no difference for the parameters of pacemaker before and after ultrasonic scaling.[Conclusion] Ultrasonic scaling has no interference with cardiac pacing system, and can be safely applied to the patients with implanted pacemakers.
