Objective:To probe the changes of extremity soft tissue sarcoma in the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression and microvascular density(MVD)and the tumors longest diameter under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)Before and after IMRT, and then from the micro and macro to prove the effectiveness of the intensity modulated radiation therapy(IMRT) in the treatment of soft tissue sarcoma. Methods:Between January2012and November2013,26cases of extremity soft tissue sarcoma in our hospital, the average age was42.35years(15-75years), male12,female14cases. After admission they were arranged to accept MRI examinations, and then performed needle biopsy of the lesion, to confirm the diagnosis. All the petients accepted IMRT3.5Gy/f,5f/w,2weeks to complete, the equivalent dose was46Gy.MRI were underwent again to assess changes in the longest diameter of the tumors3-6weeks after radiotherapy, then underwent surgical treatment, and all the tumor specimens were taken, next to aplicate immunohistochemistry technique to detect the VEGF expression and MVD changes in26patients with soft tissue sarcoma tumors before and after IMRT. As the number of CD34-positive blood vessels to MVD, with an optional400-fold microscope field of view being not repeated five horizons, counting the number of positive vessels. Results:After IMRT the VEGF expression was lower compared with that before IMRT,the difference was statistically significant.(t=11.806,P≤0.001).After IMRT the MVD counting was lower compared with that before IMRT,the difference was statistically significant.(t=3.617,P≤0.001).After IMRT the longest tumor diameter under MRI of26patients with soft tissue sarcoma was smaller compared with that before IMRT,the difference was statistically significant.(t=6.632, P≤0.001).Conclusions:In the IMRT treatment of soft tissue sarcoma, after radiotherapy the VEGF expression, MVD count and the tumor longest diameter under MRI reduced than that before radiotherapy, the difference was statistically significant, which indicated that radiation was effective.
