Objective:To investigate the relationship of carotid artery plaque and short-term blood pressure variability (BPV). Methods:We retrospectively analyzed clinical data of1080(the han nationality in635cases,445cases of Uighur) cases of in-patients with essential hypertension treated in department of hypertension of The First Teaching Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between February2010and April2013. The related risk factors of carotid artery plaque were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression analysis. Results:(1) In the total population, han and Uighur population, carotid artery plaque was associated with age, duration of disease,24h average systolic blood pressure,24h average diastolic blood pressure,24h systolic BPV, daytime average systolic blood pressure, nighttime average systolic blood pressure, daytime average diastolic blood pressure, nighttime average diastolic blood pressure, daytime systolic BPV, nighttime systolic BPV,24h average heart rate, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and The history of pill poppers (P<0.05).(2) Multivariate regression analysis results:In the total population, carotid artery plaque was associated positively with age, smoking, LDL-C,24h mean systolic blood pressure, nighttime average systolic blood pressure,24h systolic BPV, nighttime systolic BPV (P<0.05, OR were1.0851.8031.5481.0171.0291.0911.096); The differences between uighurs and han nationality, Compared with uygur, han risk of carotid plaques is lower than the uighurs (P<0.05, OR=0.615). In the han nationality, carotid artery plaque was associated positively with age, smoking, LDL-C,24h mean systolic blood pressure, nighttime average systolic blood pressure,24h systolic BPV, nighttime systolic BPV (P<0.05, OR were1.0812.1571.5651.0261.0341.0851.082), and was negatively related to24h average heart rate (P<0.05,OR=0.971). In the uighur population, carotid artery plaque was associated positively with age nighttime average systolic blood pressure,24h systolic BPV and nighttime systolic BPV (P<0.05, OR were1.0881.0201.1031.108). After24h systolic BPV is divided into four groups according to the size, found in the general population, han and Uighur people,24h systolic BPV increased per5.55mmHg, the risk of carotid artery plaque respectively increased by0.689,0.580,0.886.(P<0.05). Conclusion:In Xinjiang, hypertension patients with carotid artery plaque is associated positively with short-term systolic BPV.
