Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation of blood pressure variability, morning blood pressure surge and carotid plaque in elderly patients with hypertension. Methods: 84 elderly patients with hypertension in our hospital were collected as the research object.Divided into two groups based on semi-quantitative plaque score.Group A:score 3 points.Group B:score 4 points. We collected all patients' clinical data, including gender, age, previous medical history, body mass index, duration of hypertension, and parameters of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring We study whether the above indicators are related to semi-quantitative plaque score. Results: 1.The differences in diurnal systolic blood pressure variation coefficient and diastolic diastolic blood pressure variation coefficient between the two groups of hypertension patients were statistically significant(P<0.001);2.The other ambulatory blood pressure monitoring indicators and morning blood pressure peaks were not significantly different between the two groups of patients(P>0.05).Conclusions:1.Blood pressure variability is closely related to carotid atherosclerotic plaques in elderly patients with hypertension. The more severe the coefficient of variation of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure during the day,the higher the carotid plaque score and the more severe atherosclerosis.Lowering blood pressure variability can reduce carotid IMT thickening and delay the progression of carotid atherosclerosis.2.There is no obvious relationship between morning peak blood pressure and carotid atheroma.
