| Background: Lung cancer is the most common cancer worldwide and causes moredeaths per year than any other cancers. Early diagnosis of lung cancer has become aserious challenge to the scientific community. Currently, there are many clinicalmethods for detecting lung cancer, but each of them has certain limitation. Tumormarkers attract many scholars’ attentions due to the advantages on the early diagnosisof lung cancer and the potential application values for screening in the high risk group. With the development of the molecular biology and the human genome project, moreand more specific tumor markers are identified. MMP-9is the heavy chain of atrans-membrane hetero dimer on the cell surface and plays an important role in thedevelopment of cancer. It might be a potential novel tumor marker for diagnosis andprognosis of lung cancer. Objective: The purpose of the present study is to determinethe role of MMP-9as a prognostic factor in a group of NSCLC patients and discussthe clinical significance of MMP-9in lung cancer. Methods:The MMP-9expressionin72patients with NSCLC,27patients with nonmalignant lung diseases and27healthy persons were measured by a sandwich ELISA method. The sensitivity andspecificity of MMP-9in NSCLC were calculated. The sensitivity of MMP-9in thediagnosis of NSCLC was also measured together with other biomarkers.Subsequently, a student t-test was used to examine the differences of MMP-9expression between NSCLC patients and healthy persons, and the correlation betweenMMP-9expression and the clinical pathological parameters in preoperative periodwas also analyzed. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate survival as afunction of time, and survival difference were analyzed by the log-rank test. Results: There are statically significant differences(P<0.01),MMP-9levels between serumMMP-9levels in patients with NSCLC(0-12761.61ng/ul) and normal control group(243.83-670.37ng/ul) peripheral blood of patients with NSCLC were significantlyhigher than the control group.NSCLC patients with peripheral blood serum MMP-9levels change with age, sex, smoking, and other the NSE(P=0.08),MMP-9describedpatients with NSCLC changes in serum levels exist on significantly different, thedifference was statistically significant.Trends in the treatment of pathological typeand extent of changes in peripheral blood of patients NSCLC patients neither tumormetastasis,no significant difference in recurrence and pathologic stage,(P=0.719),thedifference was not statistically significant.NSCLC patients with tumormetastasis, recurrence and pathological type and degree of differentiation significantcorrelation,a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: NACLC patients withserum levels of MMP-9was significantly increased.Trends in serum in patients withNSCLC serum MMP-9is closely related to the clinical stage, histological type, degreeof differentiation.Closely related to the peripheral bold of patients with NSCLCMMP-9levels and clinical stage.Metastasis and recurrence in patients with NSCLC isclosely related to the pathological type and degree of differentiation. |
