Objective To observe the effectiveness of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) with intravertebral clefts on recovering the height of injured spine, correcting posterior convex deformity, easing pain and improving the dysfunction. Methods The clinical data of45patients who were given PVP procedure and met the inclusion criteria were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into2groups: intravertebral cleft group was group A including20cases and non-cleft group was group B including25cases. The degree of damage before operation, the operation time, the injected volume of bone cement, time to ambulated and complications were recorded. The height and the posterior convex Cobb angle of injured spine were measured on reviewing X-ray film before operation and after operation1week and1year.Results There was no significant deference in the operation time and time to ambulate of injured spine between2groups (P>0.05).The degree of damage in group A was more serious than in group B. The injected volume of bone cement in group B was significantly less than that in group A. The height and the posterior convex Cobb angle of injured spine were improved significantly when compared with the preoperative ones in2groups (P<0.05), but the improvement of vertebral compression fractures with intravertebral clefts was more significant (P<0.05).Conclusion There is no significant effect on the relief of pain and the improvement of dysfunction of the patients with intravertebral clefts. The height and posterior convex deformity of injured spine of the patients with intravertebral clefts is comparatively more obviously improved after operation. The efficacy of PVP on the treatment of vertebral compression fractures combined with intravertebral clefts is positive.
