Objective:To observe the relationship between the work stress and personality traits, work burnout, and health condition.Methods:Symptom Checklist90(SCL-90) was used to aseess the psychological conditions, and Eysenck’s Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) was used to assess the personality. Also, a designed outline was used to interview the medical staff. The contents of the study included four main parts:basic information, personality tendstencies, health and work of medical staff. Finally, quantitative data was processed and analyzed by making use of social science statistical software (SPSS16.0).The survey was performed by researcher on the health and work conditions of medical staff in two tertiary hospitals in Changsha. Also, the work stress data of the hospital staff was collected and analyzed in order to find the causes and make suggestions in the point of view of medical personnel, hospitals and the public, further, a survey on the job satisfaction of the hospital medical staff was carried out as well, trying to find out the problems and deficiencies in the hospital management and the potential loopholes in the social system, so as to guide the activities embodying the "people-oriented" core concepts of hospital management, provide a reference for improving hospital management efficiency and health-related decisions of administrative department, and thus promote the sustainable development of health services. Results:The survey showed that there were only20.89%medical staffs rating themselves as well-being, and only38.23%could have lunch regularly. There were less than8%medical staffs could have8-hour sleep, and even1.84%medical staffs had less than four hours sleep. There were7.35%and5.23%of medical staffs who smoke and drink often, respectively. The rate of unphysical activity was51.31%. More than80%medical staffs worked for more than8hours everyday, and91.21%doctors worked for more than8hours everyday. Only4.43%medical staffs had a not bad feeling when they got off work. More than a half of medical staffs had to be on duty for more than3nights. There were39.46%medical staffs who have to worked continually for more than24hours. For the viewpoint of job burnout, there were15.05%of the medical staffs have a certain emotional exhaustion phenomenon. Female were more extrovert than male, and nurses were more extrovert than doctors.Conclusion:1. The health conditions of medical staffs are not ideal, and there are different characteristic in different group of medical staffs.2. Most of medical staffs lead irregular lives with bad habits.3. Some medical staffs have emotional exhaustion and job burnout because of continual working late and heavy work stress.4. The medical staffs usually have lower mental health levels than normal persons.5. Medical staffs claimed more positive emotions and more meaning in their lives if they can get positive work emotion.
