The Characteristic Of Visual P300Event-related Potentions In Children With Mental Retardation And The Correlation With Intelligent Quotient

Objective:To explore the characteristic of visual P300event-related potention(ERP) in children with mental retardation(MR) and evaluate the correlations between visual P300in event-related potention and intelligent quotient(IQ).Methods:Thirty children with mental retardation were-selected as the test group who were inpatients or see a doctor in rehabilitation department of hunan province of children’s hospital. At the same time, thirty normal children were selected as the control group who were see a doctor in child healthcare department of hunan province of children’s hospital. Two groups had no statistically significant difference in sex and age(p>0.05) and were comparable. All parents understood the test and signed the informed consents. All children had administered the Wechsler intelligence test in child healthcare department and had tested the visual event-related potential in rehabilitation department. The results of the visual P300latency and amplitude were analyzed. Another, the revelance between IQ and P300latency and amplitude were also compared by statistics.Result:1、Compared with the control group, the visual P300latency in children with MR were apparently longer, there were significant statistical differences between two groups (P<0.05) 2、Compared with the control group, the visual P300amplitude decreased significantly in children with MR, there were significant statistical differences between two groups (P<0.05)3、P300latency in MR expected negative correlation with intelligent quotient.4、P300amplitude in MR expected no correlation with intelligent quotient.Conclusion:1、P300latency and amplitude of ERP could objectively reflect cognitive function in children with MR, which can be used as an objective electrophysiological index for assisting in the diagnosis of mental retardation of children in clinical.2、P300latency and amplitude of ERP could be regarded one of the objective measures in the evaluation of cognitive function in children with MR.3、The length of P300latency could reflected the degree of cognitive impairment in children with MR.4、P300latency of ERPs in children with MR repected negative correlation with intelligent quotient.but P300amplitude of ERP repected no correlation with intelligent quotient.
