Objective:In order to evaluate and follow the effect of carotid stent used by the combined result of carotid artery ultrasoundand Transcranial Doppler (TCD). Methods: Seventy-one carotid stenosis cases confirmed by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) who had cerebral ischemia symptoms and received stent implantation were reviewed. Carotid artery ultrasound and TCD were adopted to measure the vessel diameter, peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the narrow segment, PSV and pulsatility index (PI) of ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) before and after the treatment of intravascular stents, and a comparison analysis was made. Results:After the treatment of carotid stent implantation, the improvement of above indexes in patient with carotid stenosis were as following:Inner diameter of the narrow part become widened. The inner diameter was (3.13±0.83) mm before stenting and (4.77±0.51) mm after stenting one week (P<0.05),(4.64±0.52) mm after stenting one year(P<0.05); Before stenting the PSV of the narrow part was (190.69±113.65) cm/s, after stenting one week it was (86.15±30.52) cm/s (P<0.05), after stenting one year it was (90.28±29.79) cm/s (P<0.05); PSV of the affected side MCA was (77.68±14.66) cm/s before stenting, and after stenting one week it was (115.62±22.32) cm/s (P<0.05), after stenting one year it was (108.89±20.29) cm/s (P<0.05); PI of the affected side MCA from0.81±0.01before stenting, increased to1.07±0.01(P<0.05) after stenting one week, increased to1.06±0.02(P<0.05) after stenting one year. Conclusions:The results of carotid artery ultrasound and TCD indicated that the treatment of endo vascular stenting could improve the vascular structures and hemodynam-ics, the combination of carotid artery ultrasound and TCD could be used in the accurate assessment and follow up of carotid artery stenting treatment.
