Objective:To investigate the incidence and risk factors for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) after adult cardiac surgery. Methods:Adult patients who underwent cardiac surgery from January2011to May2013were analyzed by a prospective cohort study; The patients who have mechanical ventilation time over48hours were divided into two groups according to whether VAP occoured. The risk factors for VAP after adult cardiac surgery were evaluted by Unvariate analyses and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results:The incidence of VAP is9.32%.The surgery time, cardiopulmonary bypass, mechanical ventilation time, APACHE-Ⅱ score, having the second surgery are the risk factors of VAP.Conclusions:VAP is one of the common complications in adult undergoing cardiac surgery. The development of VAP is related with variety risk factors, suggesting more attention should be paid to the prevention of these risk factors.
