Purpose By analysis of lateral epicondylitis patients MRI features, explore the lateral epicondylitis named rationality. Methods Cochrane’s systematic review methods were used to retrievethe literature about lateral epicondylitis patients MRI features fromCochrane Library, Medline, OVID, EMBASE, Chinese biomedicalliterature database(CBM),VIP, CNKI, Wan fang digital journals, total32article.14articles met the inclusion criteria for the lateral epicondyle ofhumerus elbow in patients with MRI findings. In accordance with therandomized controlled studies or case-control data using RevMan5.0software for Meta analysis. Odds ratio (OR) as count data statistics;interval estimation are used95%confidence interval (CI). When the datacannot be performed Meta analysis, only do qualitative analysis.Results14studies met the inclusion criteria, including339ipsilateralelbows (6patients with bilateral disease,327patients with unilateraldisease) and169asymptomatic side of the elbow (98cases of patients withthe contralateral elbow,71cases of healthy volunteers). The results of Metaanalysis suggest that: Patients and healthy volunteers of elbow MRIshowed statistically significant(OR=88.55,95%CI=29.20,268.57). Between ipsilateral elbow and contra lateral of elbow MRI showedstatistically significant (OR=80.17,95%CI=21.53,298.59).Meta-analysisof the indicators could not do, descriptive analysis of the line. MRI analysisshowed that in addition to signs of extensor tendon injury, the elbow is alsowidely associated with other changes, such as radial collateral ligamentinjury(5.5%), bone marrow edema(7.0%), joint effusion (37.1%), tendontear(38.2%), and elbows muscle edema(28.8%).Conclusions Through MRI findings, the so-called lateral epicondylitisits main pathological changes were mainly for total extensor tendon andadjacent tissue of chronic injury, just7%had bone marrow edema Namingthe current external humeral epicondylitis is unreasonable. Therefore, periarthritis of lateral epicondyle of humerus seems to be the bestappropriate term to use in clinical practice.
