【objectives】 To investigate pulmonary function in infant withbronchiolitis, by infant plethysmography, and the relationship of airwayresistance and tidal breathing parameters, and to provide some advicesabout cilinical application of infant plethysmography.【Methods】 A total of31infants with mild bronchiolitis wererecruited. Infant plethysmography which was pruduced by German wasused to obtain airway resistance, lung volume and tidal breathingparameters, and describe tidal breathing flow-volume(TBFV) loops, FRCploops, sReff loops. Comparing airway resistance with tidal breathingparameters is the key point in this study.【Results】1.Reff/kg and sReff were not correlated to all of theparameters of tidal breathing in31infants with bronchiolitis except forPTEF(r=-0.527,P<0.01).2.Reff/kg was negatively correlated toFRCp(r=-0.373,P<0.05).3.25/PF was positively correlated toTPTEF/TE,VPTEF/VE in these bronchiolitis infants(r=0.768,P<0.01,r=0.41,P<0.05).TPTEF/TE was positively correlated to VPTEF/VE(r=0.779,P<0.01).【Conlusions】1.Reff and sReff are little sensitive to evaluate smallairway function, and are not addaptive to contribute to diagnose smallairway destructive disease.2.Shapes of sReff loops carry information on theparticular disorder and are helpful in differential diagnosis.3.Reff is affectdby lung volume, sReff may reflect the caliber of airway.
