Objective: To analyze the clinical features of children diagnosed withpurulent meningitis(PM) complicated with subdural effusion(SE),andsearch for the indicators for the early diagnosis of PM complicated withSE.Methods: A retrospective study was made about258children (129children who were diagnosed with PM complicated with SE,while theother randomly selected129children were PM only).T test/Chi-squaretest/Rank sum test and Logistic regression analysis were used to explorethe clinical features. Results: The most common clinical features were: fever, convulsion, vomiting, and Bulging fontanelle, etc. The occurrence of subdural effusionswere closely related with the bulging fontanelle on admission, cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) glucose concentration on admission, and CSFWBC counts on admission. Conclusion: There is no specific clinical presentations in SE, the rightdiagnosis should be based on the clinical outcomes and auxiliaryexaminations. Those infants may develop SE who have bulging anterior fontanelle on admission, CSF glucose concentration lower than1.5mmol/L,and CSF WBC count over than200×106/L.
