Objective: To evaluate efficacy and safety of Enalapril-Folate acid tablets, amlodipine or irbesartan combined with folate acid in lowering blood pressureand plasma homocysteine. Methods: From May,2011to August,2013, a totalof107H-type hypertensive patients in Guilin were enrolled. Enrollment criteria:H-type hypertensive and51-72years old. All patients first took Enalapril-Folateacid tablet. Patients without adverse reaction were assigned to continueEnalapril-Folate acid therapy (group A). Patients had adverse reaction, according to the state of their illness, were assigned to receive either amlodipineand folate acid therapy (group B) or irbesartan and folate acid therapy (group C).All patients were monitored for the change of their blood pressure and plasmahomocysteine over a period of eight weeks. Results:1. Clinical researchindicated the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of all patients from three groups in the fouth and eighth week were significantly reduced compared withbaseline values (P <0.05). Their systolic pressure were: Group A:(156.34±12.67) verse (134.45±11.57) verse (127.39±10.21) mmHg; Group B:(155.81±12.78) verse (146.92±15.08) verse (135.85±11.65) mmHg;Group C:(157.24±13.01) verse (147.24±14.31) verse (135.46±12.39)mmHg. Their diastolic pressure were: Group A:(96.29±12.67) verse (90.29±14.16) verse (82.23±13.28) mmHg; Group B:(97.54±12.13) verse(96.52±10.23) verse (88.58±14.56) mmHg; Group C:(95.45±10.82)verse (94.78±14.29) verse (87.59±11.26) mmHg. Blood pressure in theeighth week was at the normal level. Efficacy of Blood pressure of patients fromgroup A is better than group B and group C.2. The results also indicated theplasma homocysteine of all patients from three groups in the fouth and eighthweek were significantly reduced compared with baseline values (P <0.05). Thelevel of homocysteine of patients from group A and group C in the eighth weekwas lower than in the fouth week (P <0.05). Their homocysteine were: GroupA:(18.81±7.22) verse (13.59±6.17) verse (11.24±5.57) μmol/L; GroupB:(18.59±4.29) verse (16.47±4.28) verse (16.03±4.70) μmol/L; GroupC:(18.08±5.36) verse (14.71±4.62) verse (12.41±3.57)μmol/L. Efficacyof homocysteine of patients from group A is better than group B and group C.Conclusion: Enalapril-Folate acid tablets that can be used to reduce both bloodpressure and plasma homocysteine level of H-type hypertensive patients safely and effectively is better than amlodipine or irbesartan combined with folate acid.
