ObjectiveExplore the expression of ALDH1protein in the hepatocellular carcinoma andstudy the relationship about the expression level of ALDH1with the clinical featuresand prognosis of HCC, then provide some new clues about clinical work and thebasic research of the hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods62cases of hepatocellular carcinoma specimens and35cases of normal liversamples (including33cases of liver hemangioma,2cases of liver rupture) werecollected in the first Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. The expression ofthe hepatocellular carcinoma and normal liver tissue were verified byimmunohistochemical method. Then we analyze the relationship between ALDH1protein expression and clinical pathological type, and its impact on the prognosis withhepatocellular carcinoma.ResultsALDH1protein positive expression rate in HCC was69.35%and the positiveexpression in the normal liver tissue was20.00%. The difference was statisticallysignificant (P<0.05). No relationship was observed between the ALDH1proteinexpression and sex, age.(P>0.05), but the ALDH1protein expression was related tothe degree of differentiation of HCC and the diameter of liver cancer. ALDH1protein expression positive rate was78.94%in the tumor of diameter greater than5cm and in the tumor of diameter less or equal5cm the positive expression rate was54.16%. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The expressionpositive rate was92.85%in the poorly differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma, andthe expression positive rate in the high differentiated groups was62.50%. Thedifference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The difference of the median survivaltime between high expression group and the low expression group was statisticallysignificant(P<0.05).Conclusions1. The expression of ALDH1protein in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues wassignificantly higher than that in the normal liver tissue. ALDH1protein positiveexpression may be associated with the occurrence of the hepatocellular. 2. ALDH1protein expression positive rate in the tumor of diameter greaterthan5cm was significantly higher than that in the tumor of diameter less or equal5cm.ALDH1protein expression levels of poorly differentiated hepatocellular carcinomawas significantly higher than that in the well-differentiated group. ALDH1proteinexpression levels may be related to the differentiated degree of hepatocellularcarcinoma and the tumor of diameter.3. There are statistically significant differences between the survival time oflow expression of ALDH1protein and the high expression. It may be related to theprognosis of patients in hepatocelluar carcinoma.4. ALDH1protein may be a new biological marker of HCC. This protein canprovide a certain clue for diagnosis of the biological behavior and prognosis ofhepatocellular carcinoma.
