This study was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of Chinaand the Natural Science Foundation of Yunnan Province. Swertiamarin is iridoidcompounds widely found in plants, We have previously studied the conversionproducts of swertiamarin in heating water. The study basic reveals swertiamarinconversion material foundation, conversion pathway and laws, the activity ofconversion products in the anti hepatitis, immune suppression and other aspects.Gentiopicroside is also one of the iridoid ingredients and widely present in traditionalChinese medicine, Its nature is similar with swertiamarin. Studying the conversionconditions, material base and the activity of Conversion products of Gentiopicrosideunder various conditions, which is beneficial to production and quality control andclinical application of the traditional Chinese medicines (medicinal herbs, Chinesepatent medicine, traditional chinese drug decoction pieces) which are rich ingentiopicroside and is important for a comprehensive understanding of the nature andmechanism and material foundation of iridoid components. The research contents ofthis thesis is a part of the Applied Basic Research Project of Yunnan Province(GrantNo.2013FA040).In order to study the conversion rules of iridoids, gentiopicroside was boiled inacidic water and the conversion products were studied. At present,17compounds wasisolated from these conversion products by a variety of modern chromatographicseparation techniques. Nine compounds were identified by extensive spectroscopicand X-ray single crystallographic analysis, including two new compounds, named asGentiovarisin A(1) and Gentiovarisin B (2), the other seven known compounds were Swertivarisin G (3), Swertivarisin H (4), Swertivarisin B (5), Erythocentaurin (6),4-hydroxy-1-indanone (7), Gentiogenal (8) and Swertivarisin I (9).The experimental results showed that gentiopicroside had converted to4-hydroxy-1-indanone, Gentiogenal and other simple components by heating in acidicwater. In addition, these simple components progressively polymerize to form morecomplex and novel structures. All the compounds from the structure can be inferredfrom the composition unit of gentiopicroside. The experiment preliminarily revealedthe material basis of the conversion products of gentiopicroside by heating in acidicwater comparing with the conversion products of swertiamarin, since gentiopicrosideand swertiamarin are similar in structure, their conversion products are be largelyidentical with only minor differences, and following the same pattern transformationlaws.In addition, we summarized the extraction of gentiopicroside, biotransformationand synthesis of the derivatives, pharmacological actions and pharmacokinetics on thegentiopicroside by consulting the literatures.
