ObjectiveIn order to sort, conclude and select therapeutic methods of TCM systematically by reviewing literature on TCM and retrospective analyzing clinical cases, which can effectively promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function after abdominal operation.MethodsRetrieved from1998to2014in Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed) and PubMed2databases of traditional Chinese medicine therapy promoting the recovery of gastrointestinal function after abdominal operation literature. According to inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria,619documents meet the inclusion criteria in3317and take information by content analysis. For this meta-analysis, the literature about external treatment of TCM were selected. Study300clinical cases of patients from2011to2013who accepted abdominal operation classified level2or above in the department of Hepatobiliary operation, Gastrointestinal Surgery and Gynaecology, which belong to Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine,100copies of each.300continuous clinical cases were included from electronic patient record. Summarize the clinical therapy with TCM for promotion the recovery of gastrointestinal function after abdominal operation.Results1.3317documents were retrieved through the literature search. On the basis of inclusion criteria, eliminate the duplicate and those against the criteria or incomplete,619documents in line with the relevant requirements were included in the study, in which randomized controlled study with540papers, observational study in34papers, review in34and zoopery in11documents. Among the included literature, purgation purgative method was used in187documents, tonify the Spleen method was used in152papers, liqi transfer method in152documents, regulate qi and blood method in26, heat-clearing therapy in20, these were the top five position. Syndrome differentiation by dialectic was in12and undefined therapy was used in37articles. Detailed prescriptions or herbs are recorded in261documents which used internal treatment and detailed methods recorded in425used external treatment. Analyzed the effect of external treatment of TCM on gastrointestinal function after abdominal operation and the positive results were proved.2. Clinical data of300cases of abdominal operation were retrospecively analysed, in which bowel qi being obstructed syndrome was discriminated in121cases, spleen deficiency pattern was discriminated in50cases, liver qi depression syndrome in33cases, dampness-heat syndrome in20, qi deficiency syndrome in17, phlegm-dampness pattern in7, liver deficiency syndrome in4, undefined syndrome was in44and the rest4. It seems that184patients were given internal treatment. Xiao Chengqi Tang was used by37times, decoction and patent drugs of Simo Tang were used by59times, series Junzi Decoction by31, Sini Decoction by14times and Dachaihu decoction by14times.163patients were given external treatment. Tepid Chinese herbal sack was applied by126times, electroacupuncturing at Zusanli by67, retention enema with TCM by13and acupoint injection was used by13times. No adverse event was recorded in300clinical cases.ConclusionTherapeutic methods of TCM promoting abdominal postoperative gastrointestinal functional recovery has the efficacy and safety. The rules of treatment concludes purgation purgative method, tonify the Spleen method and liqi transfer method. The common treatment contains oral TCM, traditional therapy, topical application of drugs, enemata, acupoint injection and so on. Oral decoction of tonifying and moving qi, topical application of drugs and electroacupuncturing at Zusanli were the most uesd in three departments. Surgical department mainly used series Junzi Decoction, Sini Decoction, Dachaihu decoction oral and retention enema with TCM. After gynaecological operation Xiao Chengqi Tang and acupoint injection were used. References are provided for the further clinical study.
