The Clinical Study Of Kidney-Invigorating&Blood-Activating Herbs On Osteoarthritis Of The Knee After Operation In Early Stage And Medium-term

PurposeTo evaluate the efficacy and advantages of kidney-Invigorating&blood-activating herbs on patients with osteoarthritis of the knee surgery in early stage and medium-term, and to explore the mechanism of kidney-Invigorating&Blood-Activating Herbs for treatment of knee osteoarthritis. It indirectly proved that oral administration of Kidney-Invigorating&Blood-Activating Herbs combined with arthroscopic plasma cartilage repair is a combined therapy of Chinese and Western medicine for treatment of early and medium-term knee osteoarthritis, which is safe and effective with less trauma and quicker recovery and is worthy of clinical promotion.Methods60patients with early stage and medium-term knee osteoarthritis (kidney deficiency and blood stasis) were randomly divided into the experiment group and the control group,30patients of each group. They were all given arthroscopic plasma cartilage repair. After operation, the experiment group received oral administration of kidney-invigorating&blood-activating herbs while the control group received oral administration of glucosamine sulfate (Glucosamine Sulfate Tablets). One month and six months after treatment, the clinical outcomes were researched and analyzed by means of WOMAC scores, TGF-β1and IGF-1levels in the knee joint fluid, and the efficacy indexes.ResultsThe WOMAC scores in the experimental group and the control group both reduced but not significantly after treatment for one month;the WOMAC scores were significantly different between two groups after treatment for six months (P=0.029<0.05), but the WOMAC score of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group. TGF-β1and IGF-1levels in the joint fluid after treatment for one month were significantly different from those before treatment, and the result of the experimental group was better than that of the control group (P=0.026<0.05, P=0.038<0.05). In the control group, one month later, there were two cases (6.7%) of controlled,27cases (90.0%) of markedly effective, and one case (3.3%) of effective; six months later, there were one case (3.3%) of controlled and29cases (96.7%) of markedly effective. There were significant differences between two groups after treatment for six months (P=0.031<0.05), and the experimental group was better than the control group. ConclusionKidney-invigorating&blood-activating herbs has an exact effect on patients with osteoarthritis of the knee surgery in early stage and medium-term. It can significantly improve the clinical symptoms, increase TGF-β1and IGF-1levels in patient’s knee joint fluid better than glucosamine sulfate, and may repair cartilage. The short-term efficacy of kidney-invigorating&blood-activating herbs is not significantly different from that of glucosamine sulfate, but the medium-term efficacy is better than that of glucosamine sulfate. It is indirectly indicated that oral administration of kidney-invigorating&blood-activating Herbs combined with arthroscopic plasma cartilage repair is a combined therapy of Chinese and Western medicine for treatment of early and medium-term knee osteoarthritis, safe and effective, with less trauma and quicker recovery, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
