Objective This paper studies change trend of common metabolitesvalues in the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Imaging (MRSI), and therelationship between protein expression level of P53and histological grade of gliomas. It explores whether to help the diagnosis and grading of glioma by metabolites valuesof MRSI in clinical work, to identify operation or radiation border before therapy andto help increase the accuracy for pathological diagnosis by use of express level of p53protein.MethodsTo choose32patients who are scanned by MR and MRS and gliomas wasconfirmed in the pathological examination. On MRS the values of parenchyma oftumor, peritumoral edema and metabolites value of the opposite normal brain whitematter including choline, N–acetylaspartate, and creatinine are measured. Thevalues of CHO/NAA,NAA/CR,CHO/CR are recorded. Histologic examination of theparenchyma of tumor and immunohistochemical examination of P53antigen are madeafter operation. These correlations among the values of each section, gliomas andhistological grade are analyzed.Results1. Variability of metabolites values on MRS in each sections of gliomasThere are different values of CHO/NAA,NAA/CR,CHO/CR among the parenchymaof tumor, peritumoral edema and the opposite normal brain tissue. There results showsignificant difference (P<0.05). The values of CHO/NAA,CHO/CR in theparenchyma of tumore are greater than those values in the peritumoral edema and theopposite normal brain tissue. The value of NAA/CR in the parenchyma of tumore isless than that value in peritumoral edema and the opposite normal brain tissue.2. Variability of metabolites values on MRS in different gradingThe values of CHO/NAA,CHO/CR in higher glioma group (WHOIII-IV)aregreater than the lower group (WHOI-II. There results show significant difference (P<0.05). The value of NAA/CR in the higher glioma group (WHOIII-IV)isobviously less than in the lower glioma group(WHOI-II). There result also showsignificant difference (P<0.05). 3.The expression of P53in different gliomas gradingThere is a positive correlation (P<0.05) between the P53protein expressionand the pathological grading. The higher the pathological grading is, the greater theP53protein expression is.Conclusions1. There are different metabolites values on MRS among the parenchyma of tumor, peritumoral edema and the opposite normal brain tissue. In the clinic, the border ofthe invaded brain tissue by tumor is judged on MRS. Therefore it is possible toidentify the border of the operation.2. There is a correlation between metabolites values on MRS and histological grade ofgliomas, which can help to study the degrees of malignancy of gliomas and partly toexplain its clinical grading on MRS.3. To some degree, P53protein expression reflects the damage situation of neoplastictissues. It is also an assistant index for Pathological diagnosis and histologicalgrading. |
