Clinical Research On Efficacy Of Radiation Pneumonities With Ziying Runfei Decoction Therapy

ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical effectivess of the Ziyin Runfei decoction in the treatment of radiation pneumonitis caused by IMRT.MethodsThirty esophageal cancer patients who received intensity modulation radiotherapy (IMRT) were randomly assigned to treatment group (group A) and control group (group B). Group A were treated with IMRT and Ziyin Runfei decoction, while Group B only accepted IMRT. The clinical symptoms, such as cough、Shortness of breath、chest tightness were observed and pulmonary fuction and the incidence rate of the radiation pneumonitis were also evaluated from1-3month after the radiotherapy.Results1.The analysis of the beginning time of clinical symptoms of cough、 shortness of breath and chest tightnessThe clinical symptoms of shortness of breath and chest tightness in the traditional Chinese medicine group devoloped much later compared with control group (P>0.05).(1)The comparision of the two groups of patients who only received the IMRT indicated that the clinical symptoms of Shortness of breath and chest tightness developed much later than control group (P<0.05)(2)The comparision of the two groups of patients who received the radiotherapy and chemotherapy indicated that the clinical symptoms of Shortness of breath and chest tightness developed much later than control group (P<0.05).(3) In each group, the beginning time of the clinical symptoms showed no stastical significance between the patients who received the radiotherapy and the combination of radiotherapy and chenmotherapy(P>0.05).2. The comparision of the pulmonary function of the traditional Chinese medicine group and control group from1-3month after IMRT.(1) In the traditional Chinese medicine group, the three pulmonary function test results were all above normal before IMRT. However, in the second and third month, the resuts of pulmonary function tset showed significant lower compared with the initiating treatment (P<0.05)(2)In control group, all three pulmonary function tests were normal before IMRT, but in the second and third month, the results of the tests were much lower compared with the initiating treatment, which showed stastical significance (P<0.05)(3) The comparision of two groups indicated that the three pulmonary test results of the traditional Chinese medicine group were much better than control group which were stastically significant in the second and third month (P<0.05)3. The incidence rate of the radiation pneumonitis from1-3month after the IMRTThe comparision of the incidence rate between the traditional Chinese medicine group and control group demonstrated that ziyin runfei decotation could significantly reduce the incidence rate of the radiation pneumonitis.Conclusion1. The management of the decoction can help esopheageal cancer patients who receive IMRT. It can delay the occurrence time of the clinical symptoms, such as the shortness of breath and chest tightness, which indicated that the zinyin runfei decottion can prevent the occurrence and development of the radiation pneumonitis.2. The zinyin runfei decottion can improve the pulmonary function and prevent the further devolopment of the radiation induced lung injury.3. The zinyin runfei decoction has the tendency of reducing the incidence rate of the radiation pneumonitis.
