Background Breast cancer is the common cancer for female. Although the total incident of breast cancer in China is low through the world, there was an increasingly rising trend in recent years, which threatened the ale’s health. With the development of the society and economy and the innovation of medical technology, the treatment of breast cancer is increasingly improved, and surgery is the most effective and pronounced way. However, due to the impact of the characteristics of the patients and the complication, it is easy to arouse subcutaneous hydrops. The produce of subcutaneous hydrops seriously impacted the rehabilitation after the surgery of breast cancer and the right chance of combined therapy, and increased the risk of postoperative recurrence and metastasis. Objective To explore the impact factors of subcutaneous hydrops after breast cancer surgery, and determine the effective way to reduce subcutaneous hydrops, in order to decrease the incident of subcutaneous hydrops. Methods We collected220case record of breast cancer patients in the general surgery department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xin Xiang Medical Univesity from April,2012to April,2013. All those patiens received the modified radical operation or radical operation of breast cancer. We obtained the clinical data of the paients from the case record, including age, heitght, weight, history of diseases (hypertension, diabetes millitus, coronary heart disease, and hypoproteinemia), surgical method. We catergarized the220patients into comparable group (Yes) and control group (No) based on the produce of subcutaneous hydrops. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the basic characteristics of the patients, and Chi-Square (category data) or Student t test (continuous data) was performed to analyze bivariate to compare the characteristics of both groups. Stepwise logistic regression was applied to select the risk factors of subcutaneous hydrops after breast cancer surgery. Results There was significant difference on age(p=0.002), BMI(p=0.001), hypertension(p=0.023), diabetes mellitus (p=0.017), hypoproteinemia(p=0.004)between the basic characteristics of comparable group and control group. The patients in comparable group were older, and had greater BMI, higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hypoproteinemia. The produce of subcutaneous hydrops was associated with age(OR,1.10;95%CI,1.55-2.06), BMI (OR,1.30;95%CI,1.05-2.33), hypertension (OR,1.15;95%CI,2.11-3.35), diabetes mellitus (OR,1.05;95%CI,1.17-4.22), hypoproteinemia(OR,1.23;95%CI,1.11-3.56). Advanced age, greater BMI, higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hypoproteinemia might lead to the produce of subcutaneous hydrops. Conclusion The produce of subcutaneous hydrops after breast cancer surgery was associated with age, BMI, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypoproteinemia. The surgical method and the history of coronary heart disease did not contribute to substantial impact on the produce of subcutaneous hydrops. In perioperative period, it is decreased BMI, treatment of history of disease that helps to reduce the occurrence of subcutaneous hydrops after breast cancer surgery.
