Abstract/Summary:
OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this paper is to compare the relationship between two methods ofmeasuring the Sagittal Condylar Inclination (SCI) of a patient with TemporomandibularJoint Osteoarthrosis (TMJOA) by using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)and Computer Aided Diagnosis Axiograph (CADIAX). We also need to speculate theSCI of TMJOA by imaging data of CBCT, to study consistency preliminarily onmeasuring SCI of TMJOA by two methods of CBCT and CADIAX, as well as toinvestigate whether the method of CBCT can measure SCI of TMJOA instead ofCADIAX.RESEARCH OBJECT AND METHODThis research chooses22testers from volunteers of Dalian Medical University and outpatients of Dalian Stomatology Hospital who have been diagnosed withtemporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis (4males,18females with the age range of14~60, average age:32). The SCI of the testers is measured by CADIAX which made byGAMMA DENTAL Corporation in Austria and measured by analysis software GammaDental Software Version3for Windows (GDSW). The SCI of the testers is measuredby CBCT made in KaVo Corporation in German and measured in three-dimensionalimages of Invivo5.0image analysis software. We select the sagittal image of TMJ;three methods of CBCT are used to measure SCI of the22tests. The SCI of the tests isalso measured three times and averaged. The research data is analyzed by the SPSS17.0Software and investigated on the level of α=0.05to determine the statisticalsignificance.RESULT(1) By measuring SCI of22testers, we find that there is a correlation betweenthree methods of CBCT (P<0.05); furthermore, the SCI measured by two tangentsmeasurement and condylar long axis measurement are more relevant.(2)95%Confidence Interval of the SCI measured by CADIAX is(52.450±7.545)°;95%Confidence Interval of the SCI measured by two tangentsmeasurement of CBCT is (39.527±6.604)°;95%Confidence Interval of the SCImeasured by condylar long axis measurement of CBCT is (41.590±7.371)°. Comparingthe SCI measured by two methods of CBCT and CADIAX, there is significantdifference (P<0.05).(3) By measuring SCI of22testers,95%Confidence Interval of the SCI measuredby CADIAX is (52.494±6.459)°(right),(52.340±9.441)°(left);95%ConfidenceInterval of the SCI measured by two tangents measuremen is (40.413±6.250)°(right),(38.604±7.688)°(left);95%Confidence Interval of the SCI measured by condylar longaxis measurement is (41.045±6.926)°(right),(42.090±8.825)°(left). As a result, theSCI of the testers with TMJOA measured by three methods of CBCT is less thanCADIAX. In addition, the SCI measured by CADIAX and it is closer when we measureby condylar long axis measurement of CBCT.CONCLUSIONIn conclusion, there is statistical difference between SCI of the22testers withTMJOA measured by CADIAX and CBCT. The SCI measured by CADIAX and it is closer when we measure by condylar long axis measurement of CBCT. When there is nocondylar trajectory tracer measurement such as CADIAX, the SCI of testers withTMJOA measured by CBCT can not been taken place of CADIAX directly.
