Objective:This paper aim to assess the effect of tranexamic acid on the dominant blood loss and hidden blood loss after primary total knee arthroplasty. Methods:From June2013to January2014in Shandong Provincal hospital, totally60patients who received primary total knee arthroplasty were randomly selected, and divided into tow groups (In group A,30cases without tranexamic acid, the patients were only given ml normal saline; In group B,30cases with tranexamic acid, the patients were given0.8g tranexamic acid and250ml NS before deflating the tourniquet). The total drainage volume postoperatively and postoperative haematocrit in the perioperative period were measured. The dominant blood loss and the hidden blood loss were analyzed statistically. Results:Statistical analysis showed there were significant differences in total blood loss, dominant blood loss and the percentage of hidden blood loss among tw6groups (P<0.05). And there was no significant difference in the risk of venous thrombosis. Conclusion:Tranexamic acid. can reduce the dominant blood loss, hidden blood loss and decrease the blood transfution without raising the risk of venous thrombosis after TKA.
