Clinical Studies Of Exercise Therapy In Prevention And Treatment Of Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective: To observe the effects of exercise therapy in the prevention andtreatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods: To Select50cases improved and discharged patientswith knee osteoarthritis at Sichuan orthopedic hospital in December2012to April2013.Randomly divided into exercise and control groups, each group of25patients. The exercisegroup using exercise therapy, and the control group using quadriceps training methods. Twogroups were trained three times a week for12weeks, then follow-up once a month for6months. Finally, observed the WOMAC scale scores, gait scores and the relapse rate of6months for twogroups of patients before and after training. Results:(1).The WOMAC scale scores of exercisegroup were significantly lower than before the training(P<0.05,P<0.01), and the control groupobtained similar results, except the anchylosis score(P＞0.05). The WOMAC scale scores weresignificant differences between two groups of patients after the training(P<0.05,P<0.01), but theexercise group was significantly more.(2).The Gait parameters of exercise group weresignificantly better than before the training(P<0.05,P<0.01), and the control group obtainedsimilar results in the step length, cadence and total stance phase. The Gait parameters of the steplength, cadence and total stance phase were significant differences between two groups ofpatients after the training(P<0.05,P<0.01), but the exercise group was significantly more.(3).Follow-up six months, two groups of patients were significantly lower relapse ratedifferences, and the exercise group was significantly more(P<0.05). Conclusion: Exercisetherapy can improve the clinical symptoms of patients with knee osteoarthritis, meantime reducethe relapse rate and improve the patient’s quality of life.
