ObjectiveThe clinical characteristic, treatment in osteosarcoma patients were retrospectively analyzed, and analysis the influence factors which associated with survival rate, in order to provide the evidence which can estimate the prognosis of patients in early and formulate.personalized treatment programs;MethodsThe use of the medical records room and electronic medical record system of Guangdong provincial hospital of TCM, gather the case history of patients with osteosarcoma who was diagnosed exactly in March1999to March2009and accept the new adjuvant chemotherapy scheme.53cases who have a complete medical records and follow-up data was selected as the research objects. Extract the survival time of patients and a number of possible factors affecting the prognosis such as Age, tumor site, nutrition level, presence of distant metastasis and the regularity of chemotherapy. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the overall survival rate and draw the survival plot. The univariate analysis was used to determine the prognostic factors related with survival rate by log-rank test. The COX proportional-hazard regression model was used to analyze the correlation between the prognostic factor and the survival. Differences between groups was compared by the chi-square test or Fisher accurate test. P<0.05showed there are significant difference between the two groups.ResultIn total83patients with osteosarcoma were treated in study time, and53patients conform to the inclusion criteria. The follow-up time was9-98months with a median survival of43months, with overall5year overall survival rate64.15%(34/53) and overall5year overall survival rate45.28%(24/53). The univariate analysis revealed that tumor site, metastasis of other sites, frequency of adjuvant chemotherapy and pathological fracture was statisti-cally significant(P<0.05), they be related to five-year survival rate of patients. On the contrary, Age, nutrition level, ALP level before chemotherapy and Traditional Chinese medicine intervention situation are statistically insignificant. Multivariate analysis by COX regression model suggested distant metastasis(P=0.01), pathological fracture(P=0.047) and frequency of adjuvant chemotherapy(P=0.02) were the independent prognostic factors.Conclusion5-year survival rate of patients with osteosarcoma of Guangdong provincial hospital of TCM in researched time frame is45.28%, which less than prognosis level reported in literature. This may due to the little number of cases, distant metastasis and chemotherapy and pathological fracture were risk factor osteosarcoma for patients with osteosarcoma. And adjuvant chemotherapy can effectively improve the survival of patients with osteosarcoma.
