ObjectiveSystemic lupus Erythematosus (SLE), called Yin Yang Du in Chines Medicine, is a common autoimmune disease, and often have a negative effect on the kidney to result in lupus nephritis (LN). Its causes are complicated, with long duration, and there is no radical cure means exactly. Modern research has found that Tripterygium hypoglaucum Hutch (THH) has anti-inflammatory immune and other effects both on rheumatological diseases and on the kidney. This article used THH decoction combined with glucocorticoid as the treatment towards LN, by detecting urine protein and transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1), macrophage inflammatory protein-1α (MIP-1α), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and other indicators during the overall process, in order to provide a series of new ideas and methods for the treatment of LN.MethodsData is selected from October2013to March2014in the outpatient and inpatient of First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine met the inclusion criteria,23patients with LN. All patients included in the study have taken THH decoction (THH+Leonurus). According to SLEDAI score which is considered to imply the SLE disease activity, prednisone is taken under certain conditions. To those who have regulated the use of immunosuppressive drugs and have no adverse reactions, their immunosuppressants are not adjusted. On the opposite, patients who haven’t taken or irregular use immunosuppressive agents, could not be treated with these drugs. Urine protein,24-hour urine protein, urine TGF-β1, urine MIP-1a, urine NGAL were tested before treatment, and also tested at4weeks,8 weeks,12weeks after treatment. The SLE-DAI score was evaluated before treatment, and12weeks after treatment.ResultsAfter12weeks of treatment, patients’urine protein,24-hour urine protein levels were decreased. Urine TGF-β1, urine MIP-1α, urine NGAL levels had decreased. SLE-DAI score were decreased. There was one case of adverse event during the study.ConclusionTHH decoction combined with glucocorticoids in the treatment of LN can not only reduce disease activity, but also the degree of activity of inflammatory damage. Moreover, it can impede the process of renal fibrosis, alleviate cell damage, improve laboratory indicators, and have drug safety.
