Background:Knee osteoarthritis is a common disease which always happens in the elderly. Its incidence is increasing faster and faster with the development of the aging society. It has been a dangerous factor to human’s health. Objective:Observe the clinical efficacy of needle warming moxibustion compared with electro—acupuncture in order to find a more useful and safer treatment of KOA.Methods:We Selected60inpatients and outpatients in acupuncture department of the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, First Affiliated Hospital, which were divided into2groups by using the principle of randomization. Each group had30patients. We treated one group by needle warming moxibustion while the other by electro—acupuncture for two courses. Every patient filled the observation forms of WOMAC and Lequesne M G before and after the treatment. Finally, we used SPSS19.0software to analyze and evaluate the clinical efficacy of the treatment. Results:There was no statistic difference in gender, age and course of disease between two groups because of randomization. Every patient filled the WOMAC and Lequesne M G forms before the treatment and after the treatment. Both showed great statistic difference by comparing the first score and the second score. Comparing the second score of needle warming moxibustion group with the electro—acupuncture group, there showed great significant difference in the aspect of joint stiffness、function and total score. After2courses, patients had different clinical efficacy in needle warming moxibustion group:6patients cured,14patients marked,8patients improved,2patients ineff icacy. At the same time the other group had4cured,8marked,12improved and6inefficacy. The results meaned that the treatment of needle warming moxibustion total effectiveness was93.33%, the electro—acupuncture was80.00%. It had no significant difference after analysis by software. Conclusion:Firstly, both groups have clinical efficacy in treating KOA. Secondly, needle warming moxibustion is more efficient than the electro—acupuncture, especially in the aspect of joint stiffness and function. Thirdly, needle warming moxibustion is a simple to operate, high—efficiency and cost—effective way in treating KOA.
