BackgroundFollowing the rapid development of people’s living standard and medical technology, the incidence of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome showed a trend of increasing. Its major hazards are sleep disorders and recurrently intermittent hypoxemia. Without active treatment, it will appear more system function damage and complications, which will seriously affect the patients’ physical and mental health and the quality of life. We could effectively reduce OSAHS-related complications and improve quality of life by strengthening the nursing intervention, popularizing disease-related knowledge. At present, it has no systematic study on self-management in patients with OSAHS. Therefore, standardizing and systematic research on self-management, which will improve the level of OSAHS nursing intervention, has importantly theoretical and practical significance.Objective1. To investigate the self-management status and the influence factors in serious OSAHS patients.2. To explore the influence of nursing intervention on the self-management and quality of life of serious OSAHS patients.MethodsA convenient sample of80serious obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome patients in Henan provincial people’s hospital during June2012to October2013was taken. According to random number table, the study population was divided into the intervention group(self-management intervention) and the control group(conventional intervention) with40people in each group. Data were collected by sleep apnea quality of life index, Epworth Sleeping Scale, self-designed serious OSAHS self-management scale and the polysomnography parameters before the intervention.After6months, above-mentioned data and treatment time of continuous positive airway pressure were collected, which were analyzed by SPSS19.0. x±s and percentage were used for describing information. Student’s t test, Analysis of Variance, Chi-square test and multiple stepwise regressions were used. Take the test level of α=0.05.Results1. The overall score of serious OSAHS self-management scale was(66.50±8.35)points;6.88%got high scores,54.13%got moderate scores, and38.99%got low scores in the study population.2. By multiple stepwise regressions, patients’ education level, family income per month, course of the disease, and complications are the major factors, which influence serious OSAHS patients’ self-management.3. Compare with that before treatment, SAQLI scores, ESS scores, serious OSAHS self-management scales and the polysomnography parameters in the intervention group were better than the control group after treatment(P<0.05). Compare to control group, above-mentioned data and treatment time of continuous positive airway pressure of intervention group made a difference after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion1. The levels of self-management among serious OSAHS patients, which were between moderate and low levels, still need to be improved.2. The major factors, which influence the levels of self-management among serious OSAHS patients, are patients’ education level, family income per month, course of the disease and complications. 3. The serious OSAHS patients’ self-management and quality of life can be improved differently by self-management intervention. The research result, which has importantly theoretical and practical significance, should be used for reference.
