| Objective: To evaluate the visceral obesity and its correlation with carotidatherosclerosis in patients of type2diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by ultrasonography.Compared with the normal, visceral obesity is independent risk factor of type2diabetesmellitus, cardiovascular disease and related metabolic diseasesMethods: During October2012to March2013,40T2DM inpatients at theDepartment of Endocrinology of Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical Collegewere enrolled as the Group A (40cases,male19,female21,age35-76yr,average age60.5±9.3yr),and41healthy subjects were enrolled as the group B of the control (41cases,male20,female21,age37-73yr,average age61.2±8.5yr).T2DM inpatientsand control subjects were examined with ultrasonic equipment(GE LOGIQ E9fromUSA,6-15MHz and2.8-4.0MHz).Visceral fat thickness (VFT), carotid intima mediathickness(IMT) were measured. Carotid plaque score, waist circumference and somelaboratory datas such as FPG, TC, TG,HDL-C,LDL-C were obtained. All dataanalyses were performed by SPSS13.0statistics software.Group T test was used toanalyze measurement datas and Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyzecorrelation. Difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Results: VFT, carotid IMT, plaque score, waist circumference, fasting plasmaglucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein were higher thanthose of the normal control group (all P<0.05). VFT was positive correlative withcarotid IMT and plaque score (r=0.129,0.104,allP<0.05). Conclusion: The visceral obesity of the patients of type2diabetes mellitus can beevaluated by VFT measured by ultrasonography and it is non-invasive, convenient andsimple. VFT is closely correlated with carotid atherosclerosis. |
