Objective:The goal of this study is obtain the clinical epidemiological characteristics of breast cancer in young women. Methods:This project included50patients aged≤40years and81patients age≥60but<80years, who received treatment between March2012and October2013in Department of breast surgery of Shanxi Dayi hospital. The demographic characteristics, clinico-pathological features, molecular subtypes, and therapeutic strategies were evaluated. Results:The median age of the young patients was36.2years old (range28-40) and elderly group’s median age was67.6years old (range60-79).Tumor size was of significant difference between the two groups (3.6vs2.5cm,p=0.003), with more T3tumors in the young group (22%vs3.7%,p=0.003) and higher Ki67expression in young patients (74%vs63%, p=0.011). There were more triple-negative molecular subgroup in the elderly group (27.2%vs20.0%, p=0.025), There was no statistic difference in lymph node involvement, hormone receptor, HER2status,pathological stage, and tissue grade. More young patients received breast conserving therapy (38%vs19.8%, p=0.022).Conclusions:Compared with elderly women, young breast cancer patients have different clinicopathological features and molecular subtypes. These characteristics may indicate that young patients have poorer prognosis.
