Objective:Gastrointestinal dysfunction is the common complication after the operation of gastrointestinal tumor, and its causes are complex and could be related with disorders of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine regulation. Gastrointestinal dysfunction prolongs the time of hospitalization, adds additional economic burden and increases the mortality of patients in the perioperative period. The western quick rehabilitation treatment is the main method for this post-operative complication, but there are limited function for this treatment. Therefore, we combined traditional umbilical compressing with shenhuang powder with the western rehabilitation to explore better ways for this complication. Some parameters consisting of anal exhaust time, anal defecating time and were observed to estimate the efficacy of umbilical compressing with shenhuang powder on gastrointestinal dysfunction, to explore the mechanisms of combined traditional Chinese and Western treatments on the regulation of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine system and to provide theoretical and practical evidence the better treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction. Methods:From December2009to December2012,220cases with gastrointestinal dysfunction after operation of gastrointestinal tumor were collected from6hospitals in Hangzhou. All cases were divided into2groups. The shenhuang powder was used in shenhuang powder group and the placebo was used in the control group. The data comprising anal exhaust time, anal defecating time, time of the recovery of borborygmus, index of Chinese medicine symptom, serum motilin and serum somatostatin were collected to evaluate the difference between two treatments. Results:Anal exhaust time and anal defecating time in the shenhuang powder group were much less than that in the control group. The total effective rate of Chinese medicine symptom in the shenhuang powder group was96.4%.The total effective rate of Chinese medicine symptom in control group was89.1%.There was significance difference between2groups(P<0.01). The level of serum somatostatin in the shenhuang powder group was lower than that in the control group on the fifth day after operation(P<0.05). The level of serum somatostatin in the shenhuang powder group was no significance difference between2groups on the first day after operation. The level of serum motilin was no significance difference between2groups. The time of the recovery of borborygmus in the shenhuang powder group was no difference to the control group. Conclusions:By comparing the data, we found that umbilical compressing with shenhuang powder on patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction can more effectively improve the common adverse symptoms, and promote enterokinesia, and shorten time of hospitalization. Combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine may influence gastrointestinal function by changing gastrointestinal hormone levels on gastrointestinal neuroendocrine system.
