Objective:To investigate the impact of HbA1c concentration from baseline for eachmetabolic outcomes after a short formal antithyroid drug treatment of patients withhyperthyroidism. Methods:A totai of189hyperthyroidism(55male,134female)participated at the FirstAffiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University between January2010and February2014. Date collected included age, sex, body mass index(BMI) and systolic/diastolicblood pressure. The participants all took oral75g glucose tolerance test (OGTT).Blood samples collected included thyroid function tests, fasting plasma glucose (FPG),OGTT2hPG, HbA1C and lipid profile. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA)was performed to measure there fat. All data were collected again after6months offormal antithyroid drug treatment. According to baseline HbA1c concentrations weredivided into normal HbA1c group (HbA1c≤5.6%) and high HbA1c group (HbA1c≥5.7%).Analysis of the relationship between metabolic parameters and baseline HbA1clevels.Results:At baseline, the two groups differ in the age, BMI, FPG,2hPG, SBP and HbA1clevels. The Age, BMI, FPG,2hPG and SBP levels in high HbA1c in patients withhyperthyroidism were higher than normal HbA1c hyperthyroidism group. Afteradjusting the impact of age, gender and the change of FT3, FT4and TSH for themetabolic indices, partial correlation analysis for baseline HbA1c concentration andvarious metabolic parameters before and after treatment showed changes in HbA1cdifference from baseline HbA1c concentrations were positively correlated (r=0.397,P=0.000), while There are no relationship were seen in the difference betweenFPG,2Hpg:OGTT,BMI,FT3,TSH,BF,TF,LF,SBP,DBP,TCH,TG,HDL and LDL beforeand after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion:For short-term use of drugs antithyroid therapy in newly diagnosed patients withhyperthyroidism, the concentrations of baseline HbA1c levels showed no effect withthe change in FPG,2hPG, blood lipids, BMI, blood pressure and body fat content.
