A Survey On The Comorbidity In Elderly Hospitalized Patients With Type2Diabetes

ObjectiveComorbid conditions for elderly patients with diabetes were investigated andanalyzed.MethodsElderly patients with type2diabetes hospitalized in Zhangzhou Hospital Affiliatedto Fujian Medical University form October1st,2012to September30th,2013hadbeen studied. Their comorbid conditions of number distribution, relationship of ageand common diseases, comorbidity rates of specific diseases and type2diabetes aswell as some other major comorbid conditions were analyzed.Results1）Among the hospitalized2157elderly patients with type2diabetes with theaverage age of71.3±7.4(1136male with the average age of71.4±7.5，1021femalewith the average age of71.1±7.1)，the incidence of the comorbid diseases was up to88.7%, most patients were suffering from different kinds of1-6diseases, themaximum was up to13kinds.2）The elderly type2hospitalized diabetes patients were divided by age into3groups: the comorbidity rates in patients of70-79is higher than that of60-69withstatistical significance (p<0.01), the comorbidityrates in patients of80and above ishigher than that of60-69with statistical significance (p<0.01) while the comorbidityrates in patients of80and above has no statistical significance (p>0.05) comparingwith that of60-69. The incidence of the comorbidity increases accompanying with theaging in different groups (p<0.001).3）The major comorbid diseases for the hospitalized elderly type2diabetes patientswere hypertension, prostatic hyperplasia, coronary heart disease, cancer,hyperlipidemia, cerebral arteriosclerosis, carotid atherosclerosis, cerebral infarction,hypertensive heart disease, anemia, senile cataracts and vertebral artery occlusion and stenosis; its comorbidity rates accordingly are58.6%,41.3%,28.7%,16.3%,16.2%,15.6%,14.5%,14.1%,12.7%,12.5%,11.8%and10.1%.ConclusionThere is a high comorbidity rate in the elderly hospitalized patients with type2diabetes. The incidence and the comorbidity increase accompanying with the aging.
