Objective: To study the early mortality of fragile hip fractures and analyse death-associated risk factors.Methods:286patients who had fragility hip fracture over50years-old from2010to2012were followed up, and the clinic data were retrospectively analyzed. Three months, one year and total mortality were calculated. The mortality-related risk factors were analyzed,.Results: The286patients were followed up between6months and42months, with21.42±9.88months in average.22cases were dead in3months. The three month mortality was7.69%.231cases were followed up over1year.37cases were dead in1year. One year mortality was16.02%.50cases were dead in the time of following up. The total mortality was17.48%. By analyzing with univariate ANOVA, the mortality was associated with age, gender, surgery, the time of injury to the operation, number of complications, pulmonary infection, pre-injury cardiovascular disease and respiratory system diseases. A Binary Logistic Regression analysis revealed that the independent risk factors affecting the mortality included age (OR=5.385,P=0.003), surgery (OR=21.217,P=0.000), number of complications(OR=9.038,P=0.000), pre-injury cardiovascular disease(OR=3.201,P=0.041).Conclusion: The early mortality of fragility hip fractures was high and was associated with many risk factors. Positive treatment with complications, early surgery in condition allowed, prevention of pulmonary infection can lower the early mortality..
