Objective: The aim of this paper was to measure the serum levels ofinterleukin-10(IL-10) and interleukins-13(IL-13) and to discuss the pathogenesisrelationship of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at different altitudes. Methods: All128cases,46AECOPD,42stable phase and30control subjects atmoderate altitude(Xining City,2,260m) were selected. All87cases,29AECOPD,28stable phase and30control subjects at high altitude(Hainan State,3,200m) wereselected. the serum levels of serum IL-10and IL-13were assayed by usingdouble-antibody sandwich (ELISA). Results:1) the serum level of IL-10in themoderate and high altitude AECOPD and stable phase COPD groups wassignificantly higher than that in the control group. The serum level of IL-10in the inthe moderate and high altitude AECOPD group was significantly higher than that inthe stable phase COPD group. The serum levels of IL-10in the high altitudeAECOPD and stable phase COPD groups was significantly higher than that in the inmoderate AECOPD and stable phase COPD groups(p<0.05); There weren’tsignificantly difference between the in the moderate and high altitude control groups(p>0.05);2) The serum level of serum IL-13in the moderate and high altitudeAECOPD and stable phase COPD groups was significantly higher than that in thecontrol group. The serum level of IL-13in the in the moderate and high altitudeAECOPD group was significantly higher than that in the stable phase COPD group. The serum level of IL-13in the high altitude AECOPD and stable phase COPDgroups was significantly higher than that in the in moderate AECOPD and stablephase COPD groups(p<0.05); There weren’t significantly difference between the inthe moderate and high altitude control groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: These resultssuggest that the serum levels of IL-10and IL-13are involved in the airwayinflammation of patients with COPD,the serum levels of IL-10and IL-13may beconsidered as indicators for judgment COPD severity degree. They may have acertain relationship with altitudes.
