Purpose: To investigate the relationship of Helicobacter pylori (HP) infectionand onset of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) in Jiangxi province. Methods: We collected30eyes of30primary open angle glaucoma patients(POAG group),30eyes of30primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG group) and30eyes of30senile cataract patients (control group). All the patients have accepted14C-urea breath test and optical coherence tomography (OCT), automatic computerizedvisual field analyzer and other related ophthalmological examinations. All thepatients’ data were underwent statistical processing and correlation analysis.Result:No significant difference is detected in mean light sensitivity betweentwo glaucomaus group. The mean intraocular pressure of glaucomaus group wassignificant higher than control group, but no significant difference between them.14C-urea breath test in26/30(87.6%) of POAG group,16/30(53.3%) of PACGgroup,13/30(43.3%) with control group is positive. HP infection positive rate ofPOAG group was significantly higher than that of PACG group and control group, with statistical significance (P=O.005, P=O.001). There was no significant differencebetween PACG group and control group (P=0.438).HP concentration and averagethickness of optic disc RNFL of POAG group was negative linearly correlated(correlation coefficient-0.021, R2=0.497, P<0.05) with statistical significance. Conclusion:The positive rate of HP in POAG group was significantly higherthan the other two groups, HP concentration and average thickness of optic discRNFL of POAG group is linearly correlated. Hp infection may be one of the riskfactors of POAG.
