Objective: To investigate the expression and clinicopathologic significance ofS100A9protein in gallbladder carcinoma (GBC), and explore the role of S100A9inthe carcinogenesis and development of GBC.Methods: The paraffin specimens were collected from the First AffiliatedHospital of Nanchang University,including64cases of GBC tissues,42cases ofchronic cholecystitis tissues and15cases of normal tissues.Expression of S100A9protein in different gallbladder tissues were detected by using SPimmunohistochemistry(IHC), and the relationship between S100A9proteinexpression and the clinicopathologic parameters of GBC was analyzed by SPSS19.0.Results:1). The ratios of positive expression of S100A9in tissues of GBC andchronic cholecystitis were67.19%(43/64) and30.95%(13/42), respectively.Noexpression was detected in the normal gallbladder tissues. The expression level ofS100A9protein was clearly up-regulated in GBC compared with the non canceroustissue(P<0.05).2)The ratios of positive expression of S100A9in the GBC tissues divided intothree groups according to different stages of Nevin classification were42.86%(6/14),65.52%(19/29) and85.71%(18/21), respectively. The positive expression ratios ofS100A9in the GBC tissues divided into three groups on the basis of different stagesof TNM classification were51.43%(18/35),81.25%(13/16) and92.31%(12/13),respectively. The S100A9positive expression rate in the GBC tissues were28.57%(4/14),70.97%(22/31) and89.47%(17/19) respectively in well differentiatedgroup, moderately differentiated group and poorly differentiated group. The positiveexpression rate of S100A9in the GBC tissues with lymph nodes metastasis and inthose tissues without lymph nodes metastasis was87.50%(21/24) and55.00%(22/40),respectively.Four of the above mentioned results indicated that difference wassignificant between the S100A9expression and degree of differentiation,Nevinstage,TNM stage and LN metastasis (P<0.05or P<0.01). In addition, theexpression of S100A9in GBC was not statistically related with age and gender(P> 0.05).Conclusions:1).The expression of S100A9in GBC tissues is higher than that inchronic cholecystitis and normal gallbladder, indicates that S100A9may play animportant role in the occurrence and development of GBC.2).The S100A9expression level in GBC is correlated with TNM stage, histologicdifferentiation and LN metastasis, which suggests that S100A9is associated with theinvasion and metastasis of GBC.
