Objective To investigate the value of ultrasonography in etiological diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease by the measurement of His angle and the length of abdominalesophagus.Methods60patients with gastro esophageal reflux disease (disease group) and60healthy adults (control group) underwent Contrasto-enhanced ultrasono-graphy.On the day ofthe inspection, the patients should be fasted, and then drank about500-600ml oral ultrasoniccontrast agent five minutes before received the ultrasonographic examination. After the outlineof the stomach was displayed, then we focus our observation on the gastro esophagealjunction. Freeze the image until the image display legible.Measure the His angle and thelength of abdominal esophagus respectively. The method to measure the His angle is drawinga parallel line along the esophagus long axis, then drawing a tangent along the fundus ofstomach intersecting with the esophagus long axis. This angle is His angle. Measuring thelength of abdominal esophagus is to find the esophageal hiatus and cardia notch. The length ofabdominal esophagus is the distance between the esophageal hiatus and cardia notch. Results There was statistical significance of the His angle and the length of abdominalesophagus between the gastro esophageal reflux disease group and the healthy adult group(P<0.05).The His angle of the gastro esophageal reflux disease group was significantly biggerthan the healthy adult group. The length of abdominal esophagus was significantly shorter thanthe control group. The scope of the His angle and the length of abdominal esophagus of thedisease group:83.0+9.1°,2.35+0.24cm,the scope of gastro esophageal reflux disease of thecontrol group73.2+9.3°、2.50+0.21cm. Conclusions The ultrasound can show the anatomical structure of the gastroesophageal junction intuitively. We also can observe refluxing from the people with gastroesophageal reflux disease. We found some correlation between the anatomical structure of thegastro esophageal junction and the gastro esophageal reflux disease after measuring the Hisangle and the length of abdominal esophagus. The larger the His angle, the incidence of thegastro esophageal reflux disease is higher. The longer the length of abdominal esophagus, theincidence of the gastro esophageal reflux disease is higher too. There was great value ofultrasonography in the etiological diagnosis of gastro esophageal reflux disease, whichprovides an important basis for clinical treatment.
