Objective: To compare the advantages and disadvantages of Magnetization transfer ( MT ) sequence and conventional scanning sequence in the detection of intracranial tumors. To the future operation of the patient and treatment programs for reference.Materials and Methods: Total 8 patients of Intracranial tumor initially treated in the second affiliated hospital of Shantou University medical college from August 2010 to March 2011 were examined with MRI. There were 6 males and 2 females in total 8 patients, the youngest was 22 years old and the eldest was 71 years old, the average age was 48.6 years old. The course of patients were 3-15 mounths, mean course was 8 mounths. The tumors were proved by potology. Five cases were gliomas, one case was Pituitary adenoma and 2 cases were meningiomas. The patients were examined with GE 1.5T Signa HDx Twin Speed scanner line T1, T2, DWI conventional whole brain scan sequence in peaceful state. Then we used MT sequence to scan the whole brain,measured and analyzed the area of tumors and the area of edema of images.Result:the image scanned by MT sequence showed that the area of tumor was less than that scanned by normal T1WI sequence 254mm2.In addition, it was also less than that scanned by normal T2WI sequence 257mm2. The area of edema band around the tumor scanned by MT sequence was less than that scanned by T1WI sequence 361.92mm2 while it was less than that scanned by T2WI sequence 257.36mm2.The statistical analysis showed that there was statistical significance in the difference comparing the area of tumor and edema band around tumor scanned by MT sequence and T1WI, T2WI.Concluslons: In this study, we collected the images of the patients with brain tumors through scaned by conventional T1WI sequence, T2WI sequence and MT sequence and statisticed the data: (1) application of MT sequences can reduce the display of the surrounding edema band of tumors, that can be used for the accurate measurement of tumor area by combine with T1WI and T2WI sequence. (2) The area of tumors of the patients was scaned by MT sequences is smaller than that was scaned by conventional T1WI, T2WI sequence.
