Study On Planting Design Of Lingnan Classical Gardens

The word “Jing Ying” originated from the ancient “Book of Songs”, which is closing to the modern Chinese meaning of “design”. Planting design of Lingnan classical gardens in this thesis, is to study on overall arrangement, planning, designing and operating on the plants in space, including plant disposition, relationships between plants and building, rocks, pools, including glory or gloom of plants, changes and interaction with people during living time in the gardens in time.This thesis is a systematic effort to arrange and explore the planting design of Lingnan classical gardens, contributing to fill in that blank of traditional part of the planting design theory of Lingnan classical gardens and interdependent elements of plants and other garden factors. And the principles and methods are reference for Lingnan garden design.The research frame of this thesis is the development process and features of planting design of Lingnan classical gardens.Based on reading and analysis related literature and ancient books, this thesis explores the historical development of planting design of Lingnan classical gardens firstly. The author divides development process into four phases, so as to find out the feature of the development process of planting design of Lingnan classical gardens, which are based on traditional gardening method and integrate with fruit trees and special flowers and shrubs in Lingnan.And then, according to historical development, literature and case study, combining cultural sources of Lingnan literati and tradition literati, author summarizes the heritage characters of traditional gardens. In consideration of Lingnan regional climate, culture and urban landscape, then summarizes the differences characters with traditional gardens.On the basis of the former summaries of characters, and comparing with cases, finally author sums up the characters of arrangement and planning of plants, and details the specific methods of well matching between plants and buildings, pools and rocks.
