Urban lawn has a vital status in the urban-ecological system, its ecology and landscape functions provide a high-quality living environment for the urban residents. With the speeding up of urbanization process, the area of urban lawn is increasing, which leads to the scarcity of the water resources, so how to reduce the water consumption of the turf has been the problem needed to be solved currently. Water retaining agent is a kind of chemical technology which can save water effectively, using the super absorbent polymer is time-consuming and laborious, while using the liquid water retaining agent will save a lot of time and labor. The solution used in the experiment is the Hydretain ESTM. The turf, turfgrass in pots and the soil were treated separately with the different concentration of Hydretain ESTM diluent, and the water-saving effects of the three experiments were recorded. The results showed that Hydretain ESTM could reduce water evaporation and slow down the evaporation rate when it used on soil. And between the concentration of 45:1 and 15:1, the higher the concentration was, the less the water evaporation would be. In the test of turfgrass planted in the pots, the Hydretain ESTM also had an obvious water-saving effect, and the water conservation effect was best under the solution concentration of 30:1 (the volume of water to Hydretain ESTM). The Hydretain ES1M had an obvious effect on water conservation in the turf experiment, and it could keep a good turfgrass quality even in a drought. When the concentration of the solution was 3ml/m2, the quality of the turf was best. The Hydretain ESrMis convenient and has good biological degradability, so it has vast potential for future development. But it also has a low stability, how to improve its stability and what the effect is when the solution used on the large area of soil still need to be researched further.
