| For constructing natural landscape with history, belongingness and ecological character, plant landscaping, which is influenced by regional nature and society deeply, deserving more research because of its likeliness to reflect regional characteristic. Yin Chuan city posses distinct regional characteristic for its arid environment, historical location as frontier and transportation junction. So the main aim of this research is finding the way that plant landscaping would express the regional character in local landscape. By tracing back to the history landscape and investigating the local plant landscaping, several conclusion had been summarized.1 Landscape of Yin Chuan area appeared in the periods of Wei State and Jin dynasty, and after been developed in Tang dynasty, Song(Xi Xia) dynasty and Yuan dynasty, and became prosperous, with plentiful landscape types and long-history religious landscape. Historical landscape were constructed mainly around water, performing the style of delicately beautiful into wild, and planting plants of Salix in avenue along the bank, using Phragmites Australis in group near water and Nelumbo nucifera in water often appeared,which would divide large lake and form gradation. Apart from these, extensive agricultural landscape which can reflect nature changes arose too.2 Yin Chuan city belongs to continental temperate arid climate, the wild plants which have drought tolerance and resistance of poor soil were rich in He Lan mountain and the green space around the Yellow river. Among them, species of herbaceous were the most, and shrubs were the second. Flowering plants in spring and summer with brightly colors were main part of viewing landscape. Plant landscape of shrub-herbs structure varied because of height and configuration based on the habitat. Nature plant landscaping were configured with stone and water. Artificial farmland and temperate grassland continued blending of agriculture and animal husbandry in the ancient time.3 Plant species used in urban landscape of Yin Chuan city contained 259, belonging to 72genera and 155 families. The species of native plants were nearly the same with alien plants, but native plants, mainly the woody plants used had a higher frequency. The ornamental flowers were more introduced overseas, which had a lower applied frequency due to high management and low landscape maintenance. Deciduous plant used more than evergreen plants in plant community of urban landscape. The species of shrubs and herbs of tree-shrub-herbs structure were not rich, so that the structure were not clear. Shrub-herbs structure, which had high frequency could enclosed space to indicate tour line and sight line. Waterfront plant landscape were simple, seasonal landscape changed, especially in the spring, and the plant landscaping of Islamic garden, the representative religion were not distinctive.4 Based on the research, several suggestions had been put forward to express regional characteristic in urban plant landscaping of Yin Chuan city. Firstly, according to AHP, putting adaptability to environment and ornamental value as main constraints,101 plants which had higher applied value had been selected. Species recommended combined with various application in landscape. Secondly, constructing directions had been proposed to express features of Yin Chuan city. Lastly, emphasizing patters of agriculture landscape and grassland landscape,and based on the local condition referring to regions believing in Islam so that regional character could be expressed. |
