The Research Of Design Value On Traditional Farm Implements In Shanxi Southern Region

As an important part of the farming culture, farm tools are closely related to the livelihood of the people. Shanxi southern area which is located in the loess plateau in the middle reaches of the Yellow River is one of the birthplace of human civilization in the long history of China, and also occupy an important position in the history of Chinese farming culture. With the constant improvement of cognitive level, the invention of farm tools fully embodies the people-oriented thought and the creation ideas of tools. With long-term development and evolution, Shanxi southern part’s traditional tools have gone through constant improvement and perfection in years and years of production activities. The aim of this topic is to find the enlightenment of ancient wisdom of creation and design inspiration, and to learn the traditional cultural of value from the farm tools and hope to bring revelation and reference for the design of today.By investigating data and collecting the first-hand information of traditional tools, this paper did research on Shanxi southern part’s traditional tools using literature research ways and case analysis method. Firstly introduces the geological features of the area, soil and climate, crop features and human environment and classifies and explains the function of some main traditional tools. Then explores main traditional tools of the realization of the function structure, design idea and technical principle of play, material application, aesthetic expression from the perspective of design. Finally by researching on the traditional farming tools and the value of design thinking, obtains the enlightenment of traditional tools’ design culture and finds out some valuable ideas and values to contemporary design.
