Cotton is an important economic crop in Shanxi province. Compared to other crops, cotton farming is timing and energy and low degree of mechanization in the whole process, especially lack of harvest machine has become the most prominent factors for the cotton industry development in Shanxi Province. Mechanizing harvest cotton is the main means to solve the lower productive level and lower economic efficiency in cotton production, an effective combination of agronomy with agricultural mechanization. Agronomic techniques are the most importable measures in mechanizing harvest cotton. These techniques include cotton variety screening, chemical regulation, plant density and chemical defoliate techniques. According to the climate characteristics and the production level in Shanxi cotton belt, studying and exploring key techniques for mechanizing harvest cotton has important practical significance. The experiments were conducted to study the effects of cotton varieties, chemical regulation, plant density and chemical defoliant on cotton yield for mechanizing harvest cotton in field in 2014 at Shanxi cotton belt basement. Basing on the plot test and large area test demonstration, and the scientific data analysis, key cultivation techniques were as follows:Yun 3539, Handan 258 cotton varieties were primarily screened as the suitable cotton varieties in Shanxi province cotton cultivation area for mechanizing harvest cotton."121" planting pattern was used and planting density was 167000 hm-2.The total amount of DPC (Mepiquat chloride) was 405g·hm-2 in 6 different growth stages.0.45kg·hm-2 thidiazuron and ethrel 1.2L·hm-2 were sprayed when cotton boll-opening rate reached 50%-60% in the later of September.
