The traditional tractor instruments have faced numerous technical challenges, including low display-precision, single function, less display information, low visual degree, and low expansibility. While morden tractors are tending to be more electronical, automatic, intelligent and networked, it’s very difficult to satisfy new developments and users’ commands.As previous problems, a latest model tractor instrument is developed based on virtual instrument technology, named Tractor Information Management System (TIMS). TIMS shares and transfers information between each controller of tractor subsystem by CAN-bus technology. The 8 bit MCU C8051F040 embedded CAN controller module is selected to design TFMS’hardware circuit. And the interface of TIMS is designed based on graphic programming software of LabVIEW. After completing TIMS program, the system function of acquisition and display signals is verified through experiments. The main contents are shown as following.(1) Complete the overall design of TIMS. The overall plan and design are based on reading numerous references at home and abroad, concluding works and development experience, considering basic national conditions and drivers’ inherent characteristics, analyzing function demand, and referring certain design principles.(2) Design interface of TIMS using LabVIEW. According to the basic principles, complete interface layout and design of TIMS. Make sure the interface is intuitive, clear, real-time, stable and reliable, and has rich information and rapid response. The system interface includes basic information, job information, camera monitoring and fault diagnosis interface. According to the specific conditions of tractor, work information interface is further divided into six interfaces:plowing, harrowing, sowing, spraying (irrigation), fertilizing and harvesting.(3) Complete the hardware and software design of TIMS. In the subject, C8051F040 integrating a CAN2.0 B controller is selected as the processor, and SN65HVD230 as CAN transceiver. The smallest system, CAN communication module, UART serial interface hardware circuit are designed and the hardware anti-jamming design measures are introduced. Considered about function requirement analysis and operation reliability of TIMS, software program is designed. The main program includes MCU module, CAN communication module and display module.(4) Complete experimental design of TIMS, including indoor simulation experiment and outdoor vehicle experiment. The function of TIMS is tested through the experiment. Result proves that:the design of hardware and software is reasonable, the acquisition and display of tractor main information is achieved. At the same time, the signal displays with enough precision, fast speed and certain reliability.TIMS has intuitive clear interface, strong real-time performance, rapid response, stable and reliable anti-jamming characteristics and displays rich information. And the experiments show the reliability, stability and rationality and accuracy. Finally the paper concludes the subject’s disadvantages and puts forward to the prospect for future work.
